This years kick off to the season was a one to remember. To start off, The new "Canadian Tire Motorsport Park" was amazing. Out with the old Mosport and in with the new track. New entrances, paved parking and more area for the pit crew and race cars. The track it self looks beautiful, very well kept, greener then ever and now two bridges for fans to get around.
Well, lets get to it then. The season opener featured the Porsche cup cars, CTCC (Canadian Touring Car Championship) as well as the Star Mazda boys and my personal favorite, Trans Am Racing. Ill have more of those guys later.
I have to say that the CTCC is growing and fast. Alot of great sponsors such as Castrol, Continental Tires as well as factory back sponsoring from Honda and Mazda. We can tell this is going to be quite the year for the once small time Canadian sports car racing series. Local dealers from the Toronto area such as Number 7 Honda, and Atrell Hyundai are running some big time set ups, but it is also great to see the small time budget guys doing there thing also. You can really tell who has the coin to be dishing out when you walk in front of a 50 foot enclosed trailer with all the trimmings for there 4 car team. But personally, i think that's what the series needs rite now. The more people start to realize that there is actually money in the Canadian automotive racing industry, the more money can be made. Sponsorship's and television air time is what this sport needs, and if that means having huge 4 car teams worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, then hats off to those guys! Also, this can be good for the small time Joe's too. Running part time in the series or not having a big sponsor can still bring a rewarding season. In simple terms, more money in the sport can mean a better chance for the small timers to get sponsorships, and get that full season under there belt.
Toronto is our next stop for the CTCC series at the "Honda Indy Toronto". It should be quite an exciting race and ill have more and more updates till then! More Trans Am Racing photos on the way!
