Hey all. Last post i mentioned that i had some rims coming for a media blasting job. Well last week my buddy stopped over with the rims...Now i'm warning you, they are pretty beat up, so braise yourself! Aahh, there not to bad, but they need a little TLC. Now these are your typical "drifter" style rims, 5Zigens from Japan 5 bolt unknown offset etc, and Rota 4 bolt fronts....Yes that's right, he's running 5 bolt in the rear and 4 bolt in the front......I mentioned he should do 5 bolt all round', but he said its expensive or somethin' (swap is dirt cheap now) But anyways, here's some pics i took of the rims and a new toy....
more progress on the Corolla soon!
Enjoy,
Chris

Happy New Year!
Well, it hasn't even been a month into the new year and were busy as hell over here.....Work is my second home now, been seeing 50 hours plus & at the shop, been trying to get stuff going again......As of right now the car still sits. This week i got a buddy coming over to drop some rims off, he wants them media blasted so i offered to do them for him.....any extra coin can be great for the car. I'll update on that later this week. On another note, a week before Christmas, i did a engine overhaul on a Detroit Diesel Series 60 D-Deck III. Truck had over a million miles on it, so the owner decided to do a rebuild.....pretty much a clean up on gaskets, piston rings, new re-maned head etc....Thursday night, finished work at 4, went straight to the shop and got going until we finished at 11pm.

Here's what we were working with, i had to crank the engine while Chris torques the pistons caps to 90 foot pounds. Also triple checked to make sure that the pistons were facing the right way, (ill go into detail with that down a couple of pictures)
This is why i do this for a living, amazing stuff that we were doing that night.
The main reason why we had to make sure that the pistons were in the right direction was because of the engine brake. What happens is that when the engine brake switch is turned on, fuel is cut and the exhaust valves are stayed open during your compression stroke. (compression is being made, but has a significant difference in the truck) You can see that the top of the piston has 2 grooves in them....Well, when your piston is on its way to TDC, and your exhaust valves are open during an engine brake, you can image what will happen...The grooves are to prevent the valves from smacking the top of the piston. Notice the other side of the piston does not have the grooves, so putting the piston in wrong will have big time problems, meaning the piston will smack the exhaust valves causing HUGE catastrophic failure!! It is so amazing, i mean you can just image how fast that piston is going, and how small the clearance is between the valves and the top of the piston.......
New machined sleeves
Finally, here's a picture of the grooves in the piston. You can also notice the arrow to your right which indicates that the piston should face towards the front of the engine, always!
